A small hunter horse at a horse show in the UK
The show hunter is a type of show horse commonly seen at equestrian events across Britain. The British "show hunter" is shown primarily on the flat, while the "working hunter" must also jump a series of rustic fences (see also the horses called "show hunters" in the USA).
The governing body that oversees show hunter horses is Sport Horse Breeding (GB), formerly the Hunter Improvement Society.
Horses competing in SHB(GB) affiliated ridden and in-hand hunter classes must be registered with Sport Horse (GB). Horses competing in unaffiliated classes do not need to be registered.
Show hunter ponies are overseen by the British Show Pony Society (BSPS).

Show hunter horses
Weight sections
Show hunter horses are divided into three weight sections - lightweight, middleweight and heavyweight. The lightweight hunter should be able to carry up to 12st 7lb, stand around 16 to 16.2 hands high (hh) and have about 8 1/2 inches of bone under the knee. The middleweight hunter stands around 16.3hh, can carry between 12st 7lb and 14st and has 8 3/4 to 9 inches of bone. The heavyweight stands around 17hh, has 9 inches of bone under the knee and is capable of carrying over 14st.
Other sections
In addition to the three weight sections, hunters may compete in small hunter, ladies' hunter or working hunter classes. The small hunter must look like a "miniature middleweight". The maximum height is 15.2hh, and small hunters should have relatively short legs with a deep body. The ladies' hunter may be small, lightweight, middleweight or heavyweight, and should be ridden sidesaddle. It should have an elegant appearance, perfect manners and give a smooth ride.
Turnout

A show hunter correctly plaited and wearing an appropriately "workmanlike" double bridle.
Show hunter horses should be shown with manes plaited (braided) and ears, faces and legs trimmed. Between nine and 13 plaits is traditional, although the number may vary depending on the horse's conformation. Tails may be pulled or plaited, although most professionals prefer to pull. Tack should be workmanlike, with bridles having a flat noseband and plain browband. Handlers should wear tweed jackets, shirt and tie, buff or canary breeches and black leather boots with garter straps.
Movement
See also: Horse gait
Show hunters should have a straight, ground-covering movement with little knee action. They should be able to show a good gallop, and come back to canter when asked. The horse should have straight, "daisy cutter" or "pointed toe" movement - "flicky toes" are a fault that suggests a horse has been schooled using artificial aids such as draw reins - and too much knee action is discouraged.
Working hunters
Working hunters can be of any of the weight classes, but are expected to jump a course of natural-looking fences in addition to performing the usual short show on the flat.
Working hunter tack also varies from traditional rules. Martingales, flash nosebands and grackle nosebands are permitted, although in the event of a tie-break, the horse wearing more traditional, simple tack will win. Plain black or brown boots are allowed in the jumping phase only.
Riders may wear back protectors in the jumping phase only.
Show hunter ponies
Show hunter pony classes were first introduced in 1984. Ponies are shown in height classes - up to 122cms (12.1hh), 122 to 133cms (13.1hh), 133 to 143 cms (14.1hh) and 143 to 153cms (15.1hh).
Ponies over 148cms but under 158 cms may enter Intermediate Show Hunter Type classes, which are open to riders under the age of 25.
Turnout is the same as for show hunter horses, and show hunter ponies are expected to show the same paces are their larger counterparts, with the exception of lead rein and first ridden competitors, who do not show the gallop.

In this noir, that takes place in 1948 Los Angeles, Ezekiel "Easy" Rawlins is a World War II veteran who has been unfairly laid off at the aircraft factory. He becomes a private eye to make ends meet and pay for his mortgage. Trouble is he's never done work as sleuth.

Plot
The films begins in noir fashion when Easy Rawlins (Denzel Washington) says:
A man once told me that you step out of your door in the morning, and you are already in trouble. The only question is are you on top of that trouble or not?
It was the summer of 1948, and Easy Rawlins was out of work and needed money urgently to pay his mortgage. Recently laid off from his job he is seeking work as a machinist, his trade, for Douglass Aircraft. Easy recounts how he moved to Los Angeles after serving in WWII when his friend Joppy (Mel Winkler), who runs a bar, introduces him to a white man named DeWitt Albright (Tom Sizemore). Albright is looking for someone to help him find a missing white woman, Daphne Monet (Jennifer Beals), assumed to be hiding somewhere in the Black community; he also learns she is the girlfriend of wealthy Todd Carter (Terry Kinney), who was the favorite in the Los Angeles mayoral race before dropping out. Albright, who says Carter dropped out because he couldn't find Monet, offers Rawlins $100 dollars to take the job. Since the money represents a few house payments, Easy accepts but is immediately suspicious of Albright. Monet is known to spend time in the black juke joint clubs in South Central Los Angeles and Easy begins his search there at an illegal club on 89th and Central.
While waiting to enter he sees a commotion with a bizarre white man by the name of Richard McGee and the clubs bouncer, Junior Fornay. After entering he meets with his friends Degan Odell, Dupree Brouchard, and his girl Coretta James. After plying the couple with liquor he inquires about a girl named "Dahlia" or "Delilah". He finds out that Coretta is a confidant of Daphne and after spending the night with her he learns Daphne was involved with a South Central gangster named Frank Green.

Denzel Washington as Easy Rawlins.
The next afternoon, after sleeping off his hangover, he is called by Albright who sets up a meeting at the Malibu pier. While waiting Easy is accosted by some racist youths after a casual conversation with one their girlfriends. Easy, trying to calm the situation, is nearly overtaken when Albright appears from the darkness. He viciously humiliates and beats one of the punks for his actions. Easy, uncomfortable with the situation, gives his information to Albright who retains him with another payment and demands he continue his search.
When Easy gets home he is immediately arrested by two LAPD homicide detectives. They take him into custody where he learns that Coretta was savagely murdered after his night with her. He is released later after some rough treatment and while walking home he is followed by Mathew Terrell, the other candidate in the mayoral race. He gets into the car where he finds Terrell with a young boy, supposedly his adopted son. Terrell makes it clear that he is also very interested in finding Daphne Monet. After a short time, Easy, careful of Terrell's motives, asks to be dropped off and walks home after the meet.
After a nightmare about Correta he receives a call...from Daphne Monet. She instructs him to meet her at the Ambassador Hotel where she informs him she needs his help. She needs to...(and so on)

The Feast of Saint Nicholas, by Jan Steen
Sinterklaas (also called Sint-Nicolaas or De Goedheiligman in Dutch [ pronunciation (helpnfo)]) and Saint Nicolas in French) is a traditional Winter holiday figure in the Netherlands, Aruba, Netherlands Antilles and Belgium, celebrated every year on Saint Nicholas' eve (December 5) or, in Belgium, on the morning of December 6. The feast celebrates the name day of Saint Nicholas, patron saint of, among other things, children.
It is also celebrated in parts of France (North, Alsace, Lorraine), as well as in Luxembourg, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Poland, Hungary, Croatia, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and in the town of Trieste and in Eastern Friuli in Italy. Additionally, many Roman Catholics of Alsatian and Lotharingian descent in Cincinnati, Ohio, celebrate "Saint Nicholas Day" on the morning of December 6. The traditions differ from country to country, even between Belgium and the Netherlands.
In the Netherlands, Saint Nicholas' Eve (December 5) is the chief occasion for gift-giving. The evening is called "sinterklaasavond" or "pakjesavond" ("presents evening"). In Belgium and the Netherlands, children put their shoe in front of the fireplace on the evening of December 5th, then go to bed, and find the presents around the shoes on the morning of the 6th.
Sinterklaas is the basis for the North American figure of Santa Claus. It is often claimed that during the American War of Independence the inhabitants of New York City, a former Dutch colonial town (New Amsterdam) which had been swapped by the Dutch for other territories, reinvented their Sinterklaas tradition, as Saint Nicholas was a symbol of the city's non-English past.[1] The name Santa Claus supposedly derived from older Dutch Sinte Klaas. However, the Saint Nicholas Society was not founded until 1835, almost half a century after the end of the American War of Independence.[2] A study of the "children's books, periodicals and journals" of New Amsterdam by Charles Jones revealed no references to Saint Nicholas or Sinterklaas.[3] However, not all scholars agree with Jones's findings, which he reiterated in a booklength study in 1978;[4] Howard G. Hageman, of New Brunswick Theological Seminary, maintains that the tradition of celebrating Sinterklaas in New York existed in the early settlement of the Hudson Valley, although he agrees that "there can be no question that by the time the revival of St. Nicholas came with Washington Irving, the traditional New Netherlands observance had completely disappeared."[5]

Sinterklaas
The Sinterklaas feast celebrates the birthday of Saint Nicholas (280-342), patron saint of children. Saint Nicholas was a bishop of Myra in present-day Turkey.
Sinterklaas has a long red cape, wears a white bishop's dress and red mitre (bishop's hat), and holds a crosier, a long gold coloured staff with a fancy curled top. He carries a big book that tells whether each individual child has been good or naughty in the past year.
He traditionally rides a white horse. In the Netherlands this horse goes by the name "Amerigo"[citation needed] while in Belgium the horse is either nameless or is called "Slecht weer vandaag," literally "bad weather today." The origin of this unusual name is the children's TV show Dag Sinterklaas' by Bart Peeters. In Flanders, up to the mid-20th century, Sinterklaas was depicted using a black mule, rather than a horse. This image is preserved in the Nero comic books, where, oddly enough, the mule insists on being referred to as the "horse" of Sinterklaas.
"Zwarte Piet," Sinterklaas' helping hand Black Pete, has his origin in the bishop's legendary past. Three small Moorish boys were sentenced to death for a crime they did not commit. The bishop intervened and they were saved. To show their gratitude, the boys stayed with Sinterklaas to help him, tumbling and jumping on rooftops on Sinterklaas night to deliver presents. Their black skin may refer either to their Moorish background, or to the job of chimneysweep, an option is corroborated by their clothes, reminiscent of an Italian chimneysweep's costume and Pete's rooftop occupation.
Sinterklaas and his Black Petes usually carry a bag, which contains candy for nice children and a "roe," a bunch of willow branches used to spank naughty children in...(and so on)

Biography
Personal life
Nicholson was born and raised in Medford, Massachusetts (outside Boston), and is the oldest of four siblings. After graduating from Arlington Catholic High School, she modeled in New York for six months, quit for a year, then resumed her modeling career in Paris for another six months. After returning to New York, she attended Hunter College as a general studies major for two years. While in New York, Nicholson supported herself by waitressing and eventually left school to study acting and begin her professional career.
In 2004, she married British actor Jonathan Cake in Italy; they met playing a couple on an unaired HBO pilot called Marriage. Their son Ignatius was born in September 2007 and Nicholson is pregnant with their second child.[1]
One of Nicholson's favorite movies is Living in Oblivion, by director Tom DiCillo.[2]
Career
In her first feature film role she starred opposite Michael Caine and James Spader in Curtain Call. Later she won what proved to be both her breakthrough and favorite role as a headstrong young feminist in The Love Letter with Tom Selleck and Kate Capshaw. Her other feature film credits include the independent films Tully and Passion of Mind, as well as One True Thing, Harvest and Long Time Since.
Among Nicholson's television credits are a starring role in the television miniseries Storm of the Century and guest-starring roles in ER and Law & Order. She was also one of the main cast members of hit show Ally McBeal for half a season. Nicholson played Christina Finn on the short-lived NBC television drama, Conviction. She replaced Annabella Sciorra as a detective, Megan Wheeler, in the sixth season of Law & Order: Criminal Intent.[3] Nicholson said her favorite Criminal Intent episode was Weeping Willow, which she described it as "really different from a lot of the ones we've done before and very exciting and current."[2]
Nicholson is to play the lead role of Sara Quinn in John Krasinski's adaptation of David Foster Wallace's Brief Interviews with Hideous Men, for release in 2009.

Claire's is a retail store chain aimed primarily at girls. Claire's has over 3,000 locations worldwide in North America, Europe, Japan, the Middle East, and South Africa.
Claire's sells accessories such as jewelry, cosmetics, make-up, hair and clothing accessories like belts, pins, and much more. Claire's also sells notebooks and pens, stuffed animals, Jonas Brothers merchandise, and some clothing. The stores offer a wide variety of styles in their products, ranging from punk, gothic, emo, and rock chick to pink, glittery, girly and flowery items. Nearly all Claire's locations also offer free ear piercing with the purchase of piercing studs and ear care antiseptic.
Claire's has done more ear piercings than any other retailer, over 80 million in 25+ years.
The store carries its own perfume line. Icing also has their own perfume line.
During certain holidays, Claire's sells products such as costume jewelry, make-up, and pet clothing. These themed items are sold at holidays including Christmas, Halloween, Valentine's Day, Saint Patrick's Day, and Easter.
The store is divided into four main concepts, or tiers.
The first tier is the Claire's Club store concept, which operates only in North America. This is for girls aged 0-7, focusing mainly on popularly-priced plastic styled jewelry and accessories. Items are typically more "princess-like" and pink, frilly merchandise to represent the age demographics' like for make-believe, etc. This store concept is relatively unknown, tending to be in larger high-volume malls. These stores are smaller than most Claire's.
The second tier is the Claire's store concept. This is the only concept that operates outside North America. These stores average about 800 sq. feet (Source:Claires.com). They offer the widest variety out of any other store concept. They carry an in-house Claire's Club line, which offers a small selection based upon the Claire's Club store concept, target for girls 0-7. The overall store targets girls aged 0-17.
The third tier is the Icing by Claire's store concept, which currently only operate in North America. These stores are targeted towards young women aged 17-27. The merchandise has a higher price point, and offers more mature merchandise including candles, mineral-based cosmetics, and others (Source: icingbyclaires.com) This concept does not offer seasonal or licensed merchandise, giving the stores considerably less inventory, creating a less "over-stuffed" feel to customers.
The fourth, and newest, tier is the Icing Ice store concept, operating only in North America. This is a spin-off of the Icing by Claire's brand. The merchandise at Icing Ice stores has the highest price point out of the company, implying a nice and higher-quality product. There is a small number of Icing Ice's, one of which is Las Vegas.
Other variations of these stores exist, such as an Icing store on Halsted St. in Chicago with marble fixtures and a more "boutique" styling compared to other similar stores. While Claire's purchased the chain "Afterthoughts" in 1999 and converted them into their Icing chain, they left some as Afterthoughts stores, and a number still exist in North America.
History
In 1961, Fashion Tress, Inc., the predecessor of present-day Claire's, was established by Rowland Schaefer. Fashion Tress was a manufacturer of wigs and accessories, and went public in over-the-counter trading.
The name was changed to FT Industries, Inc. in 1973, when Schaefer bought the company Claire's Boutiques, Inc., which had operated sixty stores in the Chicago area.
During the early 1980s, Schaefer took the company in a new direction by divesting the manufacturing businesses and focusing the company on specialty retailing of women's fashion accessories.
In 1983, the company name was changed again to the current name, Claire's Stores, Inc. The company was later listed on the NYSE under the symbol CLE.
In 1999, Claire's acquired the chain "Afterthoughts" from F. W. Woolworth Company and converted them into Icing by Claire's.
On May 29, 2007, the company merged with Apollo Management, LLC. Eugene S. Kahn was appointed CEO.
Since the year 2000, the company has diversified their merchandise. This has become increasingly noticeable in their electronics and "bedroom" line (Source: Claires.com, trends section as of Aug. 25 2008).
Another small, but potentially significant change is Claire's considering themselves as a "specialty retailer," whereas as little as one year ago they considered themselves solely a "accessories retailer." (Source: Claire's recruiting folder)....(and so on)

Rowland Egerton-Warburton
Rowland Eyles Egerton-Warburton (14 September 1804 6 December 1891) was a Cheshire landowner, garden designer and poet. Born at Norley in Cheshire, he inherited the Arley and Warburton estates, and is best remembered for rebuilding Arley Hall and its chapel, in association with the young Nantwich architect George Latham. With his wife, he designed formal gardens for the hall, including one of Britain's earliest herbaceous borders. The hall and its gardens are now an important tourist attraction. A keen fox hunter, he served as president of the Tarporley Hunt Club. His poetry collection, Hunting Songs, ran to eight editions, and some of his rhymes remain on signposts in the Arley Hall grounds.
A major local benefactor, he built or restored three churches, two schools, a church hall, post office, public road and multiple cottages, many of which were designed by Chester architect John Douglas. He is particularly known for his work in giving the village of Great Budworth, "one of Cheshire's most charming villages", its present picturesque appearance.
Lindow Man
Lindow Man, sometimes called Pete Marsh, is a naturally preserved bog body of an Iron Age man, discovered in a peat bog at Lindow Moss near Mobberley in 1984. The body has been preserved by freeze drying and is usually on display at the British Museum.
Lindow Man was a healthy male in his mid-20s, perhaps someone of high status, such as a druid, as his body shows little evidence of heavy or rough work. He would have stood around 5'7" (1.71m) tall and have weighed about 10stone (60kg). He was suffering from slight osteoarthritis and an infestation of whipworm and maw worm. The body retains a trimmed beard, moustache and sideburns of brown or ginger hair, and was naked apart from a fox-fur armband.
The nature of his death was violent, possibly ritualistic. After a last, charred meal, he was strangled, hit on the head, and his throat was cut. His body was deposited into Lindow Moss, face down, some time during the 1stcentury AD.
John Douglas
John Douglas (11 April 1830 23 May 1911) was an English architect, practising in Chester. Pevsner described him, without qualification, as "the best Cheshire architect".
Born in Sandiway, Cheshire, his father was a former labourer who rose to be a surveyor. He trained with Edmund Sharpe and Edward Graham Paley in Lancaster, and later practised with Paley. Other early influences included Pugin and the Cambridge Camden Society. He set up his own practice in Chester in 1860, working with Daniel Fordham, Charles Minshall and his two surviving sons. His early buildings were High Victorian; he later became an important practitioner of the half-timbered revival style.
Douglas' most popular works are the black-and-white buildings on Chester's St Werburgh Street and the nearby Eastgate Clock. Many of his works are on the Eaton Hall estate of the 1st Duke of Westminster, an important patron. He also designed churches, large houses and many smaller properties.
Joseph Priestley
Joseph Priestley (13 March 1733 6 February 1804) was a theologian, Dissenting clergyman, natural philosopher, educator and political theorist. He is usually credited with the discovery of oxygen, which he dubbed "dephlogisticated air", having isolated it in its gaseous state. He also discovered several other gases, invented soda water and wrote on electricity.
He served as a minister in Nantwich (175861), and also established a school where he taught natural philosophy. It was here that he wrote the seminal work, The Rudiments of English Grammar. He was also a tutor at Warrington Academy (176167).
Priestley's metaphysical writings attempted to combine theism, materialism and determinism; these works are considered to be one of the main sources for utilitarianism. Besides Rudiments, his contributions to pedagogy include the invention of modern historiography. He advocated equal rights for religious Dissenters and helped to found Unitarianism in England.
Daniel Craig
Daniel Craig (born 2 March 1968) is an English actor. Born in Chester and brought up on the Wirral, he joined the National Youth Theatre at the age of sixteen and graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 1991.
His early film roles include The Power of One, A Kid in King Arthur's Court and the television episodes Sharpe's Eagle and The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles: Daredevils of the Desert. His breakthrough...(and so on)

Indonesian batik fabric
Batik (pronunciation: [?ba.te?], but often, in English, is [?b?.t?k] or [b??ti?k]) is a wax-resist dyeing technique used on textile. Batik is considered as national art in Indonesia. Javanese batik, especially from Jogjakarta, has special meanings which is rooted to the Javanese idea of the universe. Traditional colours include indigo, dark brown and white, which represents the three major Hindu Gods. And certain patterns can only be worn by royals. Patterns similar to Javanese batik are also found in several countries of West Africa, such as Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, Uganda and Mali, and in Asia, such as India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Iran, Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand and Burma, which displays the influence of the Indonesian batik internationally. Other regions of Indonesia have their own unique patterns.

Etymology
Although the word's origin is Javanese, its etymology may be either from the Javanese amba' ('to write') and titik ('dot' or 'point'), or constructed from a hypothetical Proto-Austronesian root *beC, meaning 'to tattoo' from the use of a needle in the process. The word is first recorded in English in the Encyclop?dia Britannica of 1880, in which it is spelt battik. It is attested in Indonesian Archipelago of the Dutch colonial period in the various forms mbatek, mbatik, batek and batik.[1][2][3]
Culture
Batik has been both an art and a craft for centuries. In Java, Indonesia, batik is part of an ancient tradition, and some of the finest batik cloth in the world is still made there.
Contemporary batik, while owing much to the past, is markedly different from the more traditional and formal styles. For example, the artist may use etching, discharge dyeing, stencils, different tools for waxing and dyeing, wax recipes with different resist values and work with silk, cotton, wool, leather, paper or even wood and ceramics.
Procedure

A Batik Tulis maker applying melted wax following pattern on fabric using canting, Yogyakarta (city), Indonesia.
Melted wax (Javanese: malam) is applied to cloth before being dipped in dye. It is common for people to use a mixture of beeswax and paraffin wax. The beeswax will hold to the fabric and the paraffin wax will allow cracking, which is a characteristic of batik. Wherever the wax has seeped through the fabric, the dye will not penetrate. Sometimes several colours are used, with a series of dyeing, drying and waxing steps.
Thin wax lines are made with a canting (also spelled tjanting or tjunting), a wooden handled tool with a tiny metal cup with a tiny spout, out of which the wax seeps. Other methods of applying the wax onto the fabric include pouring the liquid wax, painting the wax on with a brush, and applying the hot wax to pre-carved wooden or metal wire block (called a tjap) and stamping the fabric.

Dipping a cloth in a dye.

A batik painting depicting two Indian women.
After the last dyeing, the fabric is hung up to dry. Then it is dipped in a solvent to dissolve the wax, or ironed between paper towels or newspapers to absorb the wax and reveal the deep rich colors and the fine crinkle lines that give batik its character. This traditional method of batik making is called Batik Tulis (lit: Written Batik).
The invention of the copper block or cap developed by the Javanese in the 20th century revolutionized batik production. It became possible to make high quality designs and intricate patterns much faster than one could possibly do by hand-painting. This method of using copper block to applied melted wax pattern is called Batik Cap (pronounced like "chop").
Indonesian batik used for clothing normally has an intricate pattern. Traditionally, wider curves were reserved for batik produced for nobles. The traditional cloth has natural colors (tones of indigo and brown) while contemporary pieces have more variety of color.
Javanese batik typically includes symbols. Some pieces may be mystic-influenced, but very rarely used for clothing. Some may carry illustrations of animals or other intricate things.

Utensils made from biodegradable plastic.
Biodegradable plastics are plastics that will decompose in the natural environment. Biodegradation of plastics can be achieved by enabling microorganisms in the environment to metabolize the molecular structure of plastic films to produce an inert humus-like material that is less harmful to the environment. They may be composed of either bioplastics, which are plastics whose components are derived from renewable raw materials, or petroleum-based plastics. The use of bio-active compounds compounded with swelling agents ensures that, when combined with heat and moisture, they expand the plastic's molecular structure and allow the bio-active compounds to metabolise and neutralize the plastic.

Advantages and disadvantages
Under proper conditions biodegradable plastics can degrade to the point where microorganisms can metabolise them.
Degradation of oil-based biodegradable plastics may release of previously stored carbon as carbon dioxide. Starch-based bioplastics produced from sustainable farming methods can be almost carbon neutral.
Mechanisms
Materials such as polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) biopolymer are completely biodegradable. Fully biodegradable plastics are more expensive, partly because they are not widely enough produced to achieve large economies of scale.
Other types are semi-biodegradable, but avoid increased costs by using existing manufacturing processes and are based mainly on conventional non-biodegradable resins. These plastics can be manufactured to be clear or opaque, and in any color. A disadvantage of this approach is that the products of degradation of the conventional material will remain in the environment for years.
This section requires expansion.
Environmental concerns
Over 200 million tons of plastic are manufactured annually around the world, according to the SPE[citation needed]. Of those 200 million tons, 26 million are manufactured in the United States. The EPA reported in 2003 that only 5.8% of those 26 million tons of plastic waste are recycled, although this is increasing rapidly.
Energy Costs For Production
Various researchers have undertaken extensive life cycle assessments of biodegradable polymers to determine whether these materials are more energy efficient than polymers made by conventional fossil fuel-based means. Research done by Gerngross, et al. estimates that the fossil fuel energy required to produce a kilogram of polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) is 50.4 MJ/kg,[1][2] which coincides with another estimate by Akiyama, et al.[3], who estimate a value between 50-59 MJ/kg. This information does not take into account the feedstock energy, which can be obtained from non-fossil fuel based methods. Polylactide (PLA) was estimated to have a fossil fuel energy cost of 54-56.7 from two sources[4] [5], but recent developments in the commercial production of PLA by NatureWorks has eliminated some dependence fossil fuel based energy by supplanting it with wind power and biomass-driven strategies. They report making a kilogram of PLA with only 27.2 MJ of fossil fuel-based energy and anticipate that this number will drop to 16.6 MJ/kg in their next generation plants. In contrast, polypropylene and high density polyethylene require 85.9 and 73.7 MJ/kg respectively[6], but these values include the embedded energy of the feedstock because it is based on fossil fuel.
Gerngross reports a 2.65 total fossil fuel energy equivalent (FFE) required to produce a single kilogram of PHA, while polypropylene only requires 2.2kg FFE[7]. Gerngross assesses that the decision to proceed forward with any biodegradable polymer alternative will need to take into account the priorities of society with regard to energy, environment, and economic cost.
Furthermore, it is important to realize the youth of alternative technologies. Technology to produce PHA, for instance, is still in development, and energy consumption can be further reduced by eliminating the fermentation step,[8] or by utilizing food waste as feedstock.[9] The use of alternative crops other than corn, such as sugar cane from Brazil, are expected to lower energy requirements- manufacturing of PHAs by fermentation in Brazil enjoys a favorable energy consumption scheme where bagasse is used as source of renewable energy.[10]
Many biodegradable polymers that come from renewable resources (i.e., starch-based, PHA, PLA) also compete with food production, as the primary feedstock is currently corn. For the US to meet its...(and so on)

History
In 1988, Jeffrey Hollender (an entrepreneur who sold his books on tape business to Time Warner) contacted Renew America, a mail order catalog that sold energy conservation products to raise funds for an environmental organization, asking to purchase an equity stake. Having done so the catalog was then renamed Seventh Generation (the name was chosen in an employee contest).[citation needed] In 1989, the company had $1 million in sales.[citation needed] Sales went on to increase to and leveled off at the $6 million mark by 1991.[citation needed]
In 1992, Seventh Generation went public and the company began to develop products for wholesale.[citation needed] By 1993, there were 27 branded products, sold at natural food stores across the nation. The company later sold its catalog business to Gaiam and concentrated solely on the wholesale business.[citation needed]
In 1999, the company went private and launched its website.[citation needed] By 2002, the company was profitable[citation needed] and in 2006, Seventh Generation moved to LEED-certified offices on Lake Street in Burlington, Vermont.[citation needed]
Awards
Seventh Generation has received multiple awards that recognize their efforts to preserve the environment:
2002 Socially Responsible Business Award, "whose purpose is to recognize companies that have excelled in socially responsible business practices."[2]
2004 Corporate Stewardship Award for Small Business from the United States Chamber of Commerce Center for Corporate Citizenship. Baby, The Stars Shine Bright (??????????? ???? ???? ???? ,Kabushiki Kaisha Beib?, Za Sut?zu Shain Buraito?) (Shortened to Baby or BTSSB) is the name of a Japanese clothing boutique chain created in 1988 by Akinori Isobe and his wife, Fumiyo. The original fashion house is located in Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan. Baby, The Stars Shine Bright specializes in Lolita fashion, and like Manifesteange Metamorphose temps de fille, their main focus is the subcategory Sweet Lolita. Baby, The Stars Shine Bright has opened their first international retail store outside of Japan in Paris, France, and is planning to open their first North American retail store in San Francisco, California, USA on spring of 2009.
The New York City branch of Kinokuniya occasionally sold clothing from the label, including dresses, headdresses, shoes and socks, but only received shipments sparingly. As mentioned in Shimotsuma Monogatari, the label's name was taken from the title of the album Baby the Stars Shine Bright by English pop music group Everything But the Girl.

Hello Kitty and Charmmy Kitty
Baby, The Stars Shine Bright also sells other brand names such as a variant on the character Charmmy Kitty, Hello Kitty's pet cat. The Charmmy Kitty dolls they sell relate with the store's own gothic lolita and sweet lolita fashion style. Hello Kitty has played a role in the sweet lolita fashion as an on-side accessory. Since it is not easy to carry a Hello Kitty or Charmmy Kitty doll on the streets, the character instead might reside in the girl's bedroom, cellphone, accessories, and so on for decoration.
In relation to Charmmy Kitty, Japanese author Novala Takemoto's POUR LOLITA version of Hello Kitty has become a prevalent icon among wearers. The character is often linked to Baby, the Stars Shine Bright, appearing wearing a pink bonnet and carrying a lacy handbag in the White Edition, strongly reminiscent of the fashions offered by this brand. There are also Punk Lolita Punk Edition versions and Gothic Lolita Gothic Edition versions, respectively dressed in tartan or black. The Hello Kitty POUR LOLITA style is no longer offered, due to Takemoto's recent arrest.
Pour Lolita
Pour Lolita was Novala Takemoto's line of clothing as sponsored by Baby, the Stars Shine Bright. "God Save The Lolita" is the catch phrase of the Pour Lolita line. On September 3, 2007, Novala Takemoto was arrested for possession of marijuana, a violation of Japan's Cannabis Control Law. Baby, the Stars Shine Bright has since pulled Takemoto's line from their online store, as well as their retail stores, showing no affiliation with Takemoto.
Alice and the Pirates
"Alice and the Pirates" is a line of Baby, the Stars Shine Bright entirely pirate and pirate-punk themed. A store devoted to this line opened in Harajuku on the 25th of August 2006. It is located in the bottom floor of Laforet
Baby and Kamikaze Girls
Baby, The Stars Shine Bright was featured in the movie, book, and manga of Shimotsuma Monogatari (English title "Kamikaze Girls"). One of the lead characters, Momoko, is obsessed with Baby clothing, and wears Lolita fashion throughout the story.

(Redirected from Leather fetishism)

A clothing fetish or garment fetish is a sexual fetish that revolves around a fixation upon a particular article or type of clothing, a collection of garments that appear as part of a fashion or uniform, or a person dressed in such a garment.
The clinical definition of a sexual fetish would require that a person is fixated on a specific garment to the extent that it exists as an exclusive (or recurrent) stimulus for sexual gratification.[1][2]
One who exhibits a clothing fetish may be aroused by the sight of a person (same or opposite sex) wearing a particular garment, and may go as far as desiring conversation, friendship, or sexual relations with that person due to this. However the attraction may die down when that person removes the garment and is seen by the fetishist wearing something else.
Others with a clothing fetish may be aroused by the sight of such garments, even in the absence of a person wearing them. The fetishist may derive pleasure from wearing them, collecting them, or observing them in pictures.

Relative prevalence of garment fetishism
In order to determine the relative prevalences of different fetishes, scientists obtained a sample of at least 5000 individuals worldwide from 381 Internet discussion groups. The relative prevalences were estimated based on (a) the number of groups devoted to a particular fetish, (b) the number of individuals participating in the groups and (c) the number of messages exchanged. The top garment fetish was footwear related (high heels).[3][4]
By garment type
Though almost any type of garment in theory can be the subject of a fetish, common clothing fetishes include footwear, female underwear and uniforms. A wide range of other garments have been the subject of less common fetishes.
Separate from fetishes as a paraphilia, are garments worn to enhance appearance (tight jeans, other eyecatching clothing); in this case the differentiator is whether for the person concerned, the clothing is the focus of a sexual fetish, or is merely appreciated and found pleasing and enhancing.
Outerwear
Jackets
Jacket fetishism is most usually associated with the fixation or attraction to padded nylon jackets -- though can also be associated with leather jackets, particularly in association with Bondage (BDSM). In a survey, researchers at the University of Bologna found that 9 percent of people were turned on by jackets, making it the third most popular garment fetish after shoes and costumes. [5]. The most popular jackets amongst jacket fetishists are the Snorkel Parka, the MA-1 bomber jacket and down jackets with a nylon shell.
Sweaters
While this sweater fetishism can be a general term, it tends to break down into subcategories based on material preference: such as wool, mohair, alpaca, cashmere, etc. Some fetishists focus on certain aspects, such as hats, gloves, scarves, etc or such adornments as bows, buttons or belts.Others prefer particular kinds of sweaters such as turtleneck sweaters or cardigans. The B-movies director Ed Wood was known to have a love for angora sweaters. [6]
Trousers
Jeans
The style and cut of jeans can also enhance their sexual appeal to fetishists. Jeans without pockets on the back are often viewed as showing off one's buttocks and therefore more flattering. Stretch jeans are often viewed as attractive because they have the appearance of being skin tight, while not binding like regular denim jeans would. An extreme example of fetish denim would be "Zip Around Jeans", so called because their zipper unzips starting in the front and continues all the way to the back. Other popular styles include the lace up jean and multi button style jeans.
Sneaker
Sneaker fetishism is another specific form of Shoe fetishism. Like boot fetishism it can be accompanied by a fetish for the material from which it is made.[citation needed] For example, the rubber which the outsole and sidewall are made of can be a source of rubber.[citation needed]
Sock
A common sock fetishism, though becoming less so, is Loose Socks.[citation needed]
Sock fetishists are sexually attracted by wearing socks, partners wearing socks, pictures concerning it, or the object itself (well worn or brand new).
Like feet and shoes, sock fetishists require...(and so on)
